What I did
I created a badging system for listings in the React / NestJS web app of Bookerty, a short-term rentals company. They needed a quick and easy way to distinguish highly rated listings on comparable platforms like Booking.com.
The system is composed of a small data model change and a Postgres job queue, where a workflow searches sister platforms for matching listings (by name, location, or submitted profile URL). Candidate discovery uses Apify providers to ensure extendability if new listing sites are to be searched in the future.
The matches are scored using a scoring service accounting for license number, location proximity, name similarity, city, and only strong matches are auto-approved. Hosts got a new section in their profile settings to optionally input their listing’s URL in Booking.com. Badges go stale after a period of time and are periodically rechecked.
New UI was created for the badge in listing cards and pages. The search endpoint was augmented to include a filter for a “Trusted” boolean flag, so that users can filter down to listings with a trusted badge.
